Hope in a Sunrise

Lamentations 3

22 Because of the LORD's great love we are not consumed,

for his compassions never fail.

23 They are new every morning;

great is your faithfulness.

I'm reading through the book of Exodus right now and, to be honest, a lot of it brings more questions than answers and causes me to see God from a perspective that makes me feel uncomfortable.

It's hard to imagine a plague that kills the firstborn son in every family in Egypt.

It's hard to imagine being commanded to sacrifice an animal.

It's hard to imagine only being able to hear from God through another man (Moses).

It's hard to imagine following a cloud by day and fire by night in order to know that you are following God.

And then I think of things I can imagine.

Like rain falling on a simple tent. Small Israelite children huddled inside. And a mom looking into the children's large brown eyes and thanking Yahweh for her simple blessings.

I think of natural things like sunsets, and I can see the Israelites as individuals making the choice to daily trust in the One Living God for their next sunrise.

They were not consumed by the difficulties facing them because of the unfailing love of God.

See, the Egyptians rejected this love. They didn't want to make the choice to be thankful or to trust in the Great I Am.

They put their trust in little gods with no power.

Today those things that once seemed unimaginable have been transformed into things that are the foundation for Christianity.

Just as the Egyptians were forced to give up their first born sons, God gave up His one and only Son.

And in this act of sacrificial love, Jesus took away our need for daily sacrifices.

At the same time, He tore down the curtain that separated us from entering the presence of God so that we can now go to God in prayer without the need of an earthly mediator.

And to follow God today we don't have to watch for a special cloud or fire. We walk by faith......

There are lots of things I don't understand about the Bible.

But I do understand the hope that comes with every new sunrise.

I understand that God's love, His compassion, never fails......

It is new every morning.

If an Israelite woman can trust Him from a tent in the barren desert, surely I can trust Him from my warm home in a civilized and loving town.

Sweet Tammy... it's been a few days since I've had a chance to stop by and read/listen to your thoughts. I see you've been making progress in your journey and yes... it is a journey, isn't it? You are doing well... and your heart is open which is good. God is healing you little by little. Like deep wounds it takes time and sometimes that healing comes in layers. Take time to let Him heal you... don't rush the process and yes... continue to give yourself... grace, grace, grace because His grace is poured out upon you.

I love you SO much dear friend.
